A Glossary Gallery

Have you ever been reading or watching something and you don't recognize some of the words being used? So has your student, this is particularly common when reading non-fiction about a new topic.

A great activity to help your student remember what they are learning and make connections to other material they have already read, watched or listened too is to create an illustrated glossary.

This means your student should keep a list of all of the vocabulary words that they are unfamiliar with while reading, viewing or listening to a non-fiction source. Once they have finished have your student research what each of the terms means, making sure to keep in mind the context of the material they found the word in.

** Wordweb Dictionary App and Wordcentral.com are two great age appropriate dictionary resources for students **

Once your students have found a definition for each word have them create a booklet glossary where they;

  1. Write all the words they researched.

  2. Write the definitions they found.

  3. Draw a picture to go with the definition. A picture that helps them to remember what the vocabulary means.
