Home to Hotel

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

While we are all stuck in our homes why not make the most of it with a great creative challenge.

As we have mentioned before non-fiction can be presented in many ways, not always traditional written pieces. For this learning experience your student must imagine your home is a hotel. They should get creative and market the hotel to guests using a poster, brochure, or commercial (video). If your student has another way in which they want to promote your hotel and it makes sense for the following task then by all means encourage them to flex their creative muscles.

The Task:

Have your student begin by doing some research about your house.

Examples of What to Look For:

- Where is it located? What province? City or Town? Street address?

- Where is it located on a map?

- How many bedrooms does the hotel have?

- How many bathrooms?

- Do the bathrooms have showers or baths?

- What kind (size) of beds are in the bedrooms?

- What kinds of appliances does the kitchen have?

- What kind of decorating style is the home?

- What kind of outdoor space does the home have?

- Are there any parks, stores, trails, etc. nearby?

Once your student has gathered all of the necessary research to create their promotional piece have them choose their method.

Students need to find a way to sell a vacation in your "hotel" to guests. The brochure, commercial, or poster must be 100% true. It is a non-fiction piece after all!

Have some fun and see your home in a new light.
